There’s a hero inside all of us..

Happy New Year, everyone. How is 2015 starting out for you? I, for one had a fabulous fabulous New Years Eve at KK’s stunning place-Teso Waterfront at Siolim in Goa (that’s where all our Bollywood stars descended this year by the way-pic of the place below) and I am just about getting into the groove of 2015.

I am sure that like me, all of you are gearing up to fulfil your New Years resolutions. To help you kickstart 2015, my last blog post featured Hollywood celebrity trainer Ramona Braganza and my current blog post has a nice and fun way to contribute that little bit (which will make a big difference) for those less privileged. (And no, mandatory CSR contribution doesn’t count :-p)

“World For All” (which I will tell you more about) is a registered Mumbai-based animal welfare NGO that has revolutionised the model of stray animal adoptions. In the 5 years since inception, they have homed over 4,700 stray animals and attended to over 10,000 emergency medical aid calls. Most importantly (for this blog post at least) they publish an annual calendar which is their biggest fund raising property of the year. Last years calendar featured John Abraham and Nimrat Kaur (the actress from the accolade winning Bollywood movie The Lunchbox and who will also be starring in the next season of “Homeland”) among others.

The calendar for 2015 has a star studded line up with Imran Khan, Dino Morea, Isha Koppikar, Soha Ali Khan, Mandira Bedi, Vivek Oberoi, Kalki Koechlin, Kunal Khemu, Sarah-Jane Dias, Shreyas Talpade and Arunoday Singh among others. All the stars have come out with their own reason for Why A Stray and they call attention to only 12 of the many reasons why Indian-breed animals are just awesome!

Among the quirky and interesting reasons for #WhyAStray, are some really unusual ones…. While Mandira Bedi says that the whole world is celebrating all things Indian so why should our “Desi” strays be left behind, Kalki says strays are survivors-just like her. She points out that homeless animals live in hard times on tough streets–through traffic, starvation, zero medical attention, weather, human apathy and cruelty–and only a few make it. They’ve survived; and when you adopt them, they thrive.

Sarah Jane-Dias feels “pets make you feel like you are the most important person in the world. It’s not just you that rescues them, they rescue you too. Save a strays life and yours.” she says. And the princess of Pataudi, Soha Ali Khan comes up with a truly royal reason. According to her, “strays are for those who have nothing left to prove. They are for those who can walk with kings yet have the common touch”

Among other things, World for All hopes to change the reservations and misconceptions about strays, and urge more people to open their minds, hearts and homes to these wonderful loving creatures. They (and me personally on a individual level) hope that #WhyAStray becomes a movement of sorts…The annual calendar is shot by the talented photographer Sahil Mane and produced by Tara Kaushal and let me remind you again is the biggest fund raising property of the year for the NGO. So all my animal loving friends out there-please open your hearts-and order-whether it’s for your home, for your friends or for corporate gifting.

The calendars are available at http://www.worldforall.co/store and are being retailed for Rs 400 each, for both the Wall and Table versions. You can also write in tocalendar@worldforall.co . For those interested in donations or knowing more about World for All-here is a link to their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/worldforall?ref=ts&fref=ts

I leave you now with the simplest and most powerful reason for #WhyAStray. I quote Kunal Khemu, “The unassuming Peter Parker is actually Spider-Man. You shouldn’t judge strays by their looks. There’s a hero inside every stray-where’s yours?” 🙂

With this parting thought and my favourite quote to bring in 2015 (pic below) cheerio…till my next blog post. 🙂
